Freedom Fighting
Staff Writer
03/01/06

As if fighting for the rights of children isn't difficult enough, doing it with only 15% of the average person's eyesight is double duty. For nearly 12 years, Scott Berger, proudly worked for the State as an Assistant Attorney General, in Broward County, tirelessly advocating for the welfare of children who otherwise could not fight for themselves. Scott is now in private practice and performs similar work for those accused of being unfit parents. In 1963, Scott was born in Brooklyn, New York, to Harriet and Marvin Berger. His significant sight limitations, encouraged his parents to place great emphasis on mainstreaming his education, in the classroom, as well as in music and in sports. Throughout his legal career, Scott has met his challenges and has overcome them with his classic sense of humor, which is only overshadowed by his keen understanding of the law. An undergraduate of Florida State University, and a graduate of Nova University, Scott's passion for the law, and his appreciation for the needs of others, have acted as constant ingredients in his formula for success. Forced to work harder than those without visual challenges has became second nature to Scott, who continues to prepare for his next battle, to become a proud member of the Judiciary in Broward County. Shortly before his death in 1998, Scott's father, also his best friend, assured him that with continued hard work and inner strength, that he would one day be a Judge. With "Freedom Fighters" like Scott Berger, Broward County citizens can rejoice in the clear vision that our strength comes through our diversity.
